Job Description

Role overview

The Publishing Department Coordinator provides essential support to the Publishing team by managing administrative tasks and coordinating schedules and activities related to the publication process, including production. This role will also take ownership of specific titles, initially translations, with guidance from the Publishing team.

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) is a national charity dedicated to working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote Communities across Australia. The ILF is community-led, responding to requests for culturally relevant books, early learning resources, and programs that empower Communities to create and publish their stories in languages of their choice.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination of publishing schedules and work in progress
  • Preparation of materials for meetings, including agendas and minutes
  • Assistance with the production and maintenance of the critical path as required
  • Keeping the publishing company's database and records up to date
  • Working with editors to support their needs as required
  • Supporting the development of frameworks and projects
  • Submissions for Book Awards
  • Building and maintaining relationships with communities and stakeholders
  • Communicating clearly and consistently with communities and stakeholders
  • Supporting internal ILF teams as required

Requirements

  • A good understanding of the organization's identity, mission, and goals
  • Knowledge of book production and distribution processes (a bonus)
  • Experience working with First Nations authors, communities, or organizations—or a demonstrated commitment to culturally respectful publishing and continuous learning (highly regarded)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good time management skills
  • An eye for detail and consistency
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize them well
  • Aptitude for a fast-paced environment where you can adjust to changing priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other publishing software, including Google
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check
